Ishita Singh is an Assistant Editor of Video Content Development at About.com. She creates original video topics complementary to the most popular articles on About and assigns them to freelance video producers. She also reviews submitted videos, looking for production quality, accuracy of information and pleasing presentation, and hires new freelance video producers through a screening process and test video review.
Prior to this position, Ishita split her time as Assistant Editor for Uinterview.com and an Assistant Video Blogger/Editor at The Daily Beast. At Uinterview, she managed the site’s social media presence, including its Facebook page, Twitter feed, StumbleUpon, etc. She also edited contributors’ work for content and copy before posting online. With The Daily Beast’s video department, she updated the Video Cheat Sheet, scanning through TV shows and Web videos for clips, with a focus on pop culture or politics. She then edited them in Final Cut Pro to create a 90-second video to post online with SEO headlines.
Ishita has written for and interned with a number of publications, including Sports Illustrated, the Washington Post, espnthemag.com, the Baltimore Sun, Inside Lacrosse magazine and Downtown Express. She received her M.S. in digital media from the Graduate School of Journalism at Columbia University in May 2010.
In her time at Columbia, she learned how to tweet, Digg, Bing and ping — all important skills, she’s told — as well as shoot and produce video, tell stories using photography and audio, build a website and report and write with precision and style. She used all of those skills to co-produce her multimedia master’s project, What’s for Lunch? Serving up salads with a side of wellness in New York City public schools.
Aside from her avid interest in watching and covering sports, Ishita is passionate about all things food (and writes about her culinary adventures on her blog, bites out of life). She also obsesses over finishing crossword puzzles, traveling the world and reading short stories. She’s always on the lookout for good book recommendations, and enjoyed writing about herself in third person immensely.
