About

Ishita Singh is an Assistant Editor of Video Content Development at About.com. She creates original video topics complementary to popular articles on About, and assigns them to contracted video producers. She also hires new producers, evaluating their applications through a screening process and test video review. Additionally, she reviews submitted videos for production and content quality and helped develop About.com’s first original episodic web series.

Prior to this position, Ishita split her time as Assistant Editor for Uinterview.com and an Assistant Video Blogger/Editor at The Daily Beast. At Uinterview, she managed the site’s social media presence, including its Facebook page, Twitter feed, StumbleUpon, etc. She also edited contributors’ work for content and copy before posting online. With The Daily Beast’s video department, she updated the Video Cheat Sheet, scanning through TV shows and Web videos for clips focused on pop culture and/or politics. She then edited them in Final Cut Pro to create 90-second videos, published with SEO headlines.

Ishita has written for and interned with a number of publications, including Sports Illustrated, the Washington Post, espnthemag.com, the Baltimore Sun, Inside Lacrosse magazine, City Spoonful and Downtown Express. She received her M.S. in digital media from the Graduate School of Journalism at Columbia University in May 2010.

In her time at Columbia, she learned how to tweet, Digg, Bing and ping — all important skills, she’s told — as well as shoot and produce video, tell stories using photography and audio, build a website and report and write with precision and style. She used all of those skills to co-produce her multimedia master’s project, What’s for Lunch?, focused on grassroots efforts to promote nutrition and wellness in New York City public schools.

Aside from her avid interest in watching sports, Ishita is passionate about all things food (and writes about her culinary adventures on her blog, bites out of life). She also obsesses over finishing crossword puzzles, traveling the world and reading short stories. She’s always on the lookout for good book recommendations, and enjoyed writing about herself in third person immensely.
